James Bonds win Hackett Beaujolais Run 2006 in style!

2:16PM 17 Nov 2006

Paul Brazier & Ben Taylor of Overbury PLC came home in style as winners of the Hackett Beaujolais Run 2006. Dressed to kill as James Bonds in a Lotus Esprit they took the Aston Martin of Jeremy Hackett and Neil Bugler by 1 mile...

From stick-on bullet holes, dinner suits to cruising into checkpoints to the theme of James Bond, the boys lived and navigated their way to victory at Macon.

Taking the coverted "wooden spoon" for coming in last place was the dynamic teaming of celebrity commentator and former Top Gear host Steve Berry and British Touring Car and all-round racing champ Anthony Reid in the Goodwood Aston Martin AMV8 Vantage. Racking up record mileage, they not only managed last but also started at least an hour behind the field because they slept in. I think they just wanted a longer drive in the car!!

Well done to all competitors. Hotels.tv is pleased to report that the two Mini Cooper S cars, with representation from England, France, Scotland and Australia, completed all stages of the required challenge and were even pictured with a monk. However, Chris Grimes managed to receive a € 90 fine on the way home. Hotels.tv cameraman Jon Portelli was held hostage until Chris returned with the cash (watch for the video of this!!).

Other interesting moments include the Tifosi Ferrari bottoming out en-route to checkpoint 3. Nigel and Graham made it home in the second Hotels.tv Mini Cooper S, probably dressed in their Pope-like fancy dress so they couldnt be recognised!! Poor guys!

  • Best Fancy Dress Award went to The Porsche Privateers (dressed as Buccaneers), Liz Greenwood & Bruce Glover - Porsche 993
  • Most money raised was by Mike and Viv Haynes in the Mercedes, also known as "Allo Allo".
  • Special thanks went to Jeremy Hackett, John Riley, Penny Mallory, Jason Dawe and Sunday Times team, Anthony Reid, Steve Berry, Ferrari, Goodwood, Harwoods and the Hotels.tv webcast team.
  • Best wishes to the Beauty and the Beast team as Major Simon Etherington is off to Iraq shortly on duty.

The appoximate overall tally of money raised for the two charities of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and Down's Syndrome Association: £70,000 !!!!!

Well done to all competitors and contributors involved.
